About Me

I feel like finally after 33 years I just might know who I am in this world, I spent way to long trying to box myself in to one of those cookie cutter wife/mother images before I realized God really did make us all different!  I am a “young” mom, I married young out of true love and we had our first child by the age of 21.  Adding our son to our lives was an adventure and we enjoyed every minute of him so much we almost forgot to give him a sibling until he asked at 5 years old , “So is it just going to be me around here or what?”  Well how can you argue with that so 1 year later his little sister entered the picture.  Well there we were with a newborn baby girl and a 6-year-old boy in a tiny house in the city when my husband said,”Hey lets pack up and move 3 hours away to the country! Oh and let’s build a house for the first time while we are at it!”  Oh, okay sounds like a good idea to me, NOT!  But he can be very convincing so I went along kicking and screaming the whole way.

Well 6 years later we are still here in the country, and for those wondering yes we built a house.  Some how we managed to stay married through it all and no it is not completely finished but I have learned to over look the missing trim in the playroom.  I think this city girl is finally starting to get the hang of country life, I planted a small garden this year, I am making homemade bread, my kids are homeschooled, heck I even let a dog into the house.  I am just a regular hippie momma, although we are not co-sleepers, I am WAY to selfish for that.  I am still learning more everyday about how this family thing works, we are far from perfect.  That is why I wanted to start this blog to begin with, I found myself reading other blogs and thinking man I really suck at the family thing, we don’t spend everyday laughing and playing and eating perfectly planned meals.  And I definitely don’t do it in full make-up and heels.  Oh no those days of high heels are high on a shelf in my closet.  It is flip-flops and lip balm for me now.

We are a messy family, there is no way around it.  My husband owns a construction company so basically he plays in dirt for a living, you can imagine what he tracks in everyday. Our son is 12 and a soccer player so grass and sweat is all he knows.  Our daughter is a 7-year-old wild child, she just does it all at full speed.  We want our kids to think outside the box, eat healthy, be active, touch the things they learn about, see it, do it!   I am not a super mom, don’t get me wrong we have great days but man there are lots of days where everyone is in tears!  I yell at my kids when I shouldn’t, my kids fight a lot, someone is going to hate what I made for dinner and end up eating cereal.  My house is a hot mess, although I have mastered the art of cleaning for last minute company.  I come from a small family, I lost my mother at the age of 29 and never really had a relationship with my father.  My husband has a HUGE family who takes over visits often.  I usually get through the day by looking forward to a bottle glass of wine after the kids go to bed.

This is our journey down the lime green brick road!
